Genes May Be A Contributing Factor In Drug Addiction
A recent study undertaken by researchers at Cambridge University is shedding new light on complex mechanism of forming an addictive behaviour.
It also paves a way to determine a successful treatment to break the dependancy on substances.
From Independent:
Scientists have found specific abnormalities in the brains of regular cocaine users which are likely to have been present in early childhood rather than coming about as a result of the drug misuse.
The researchers also found similar abnormalities in the brothers and sisters of cocaine addicts – even though the siblings were not themselves drug users – but did not find the same brain patterns in the general population.”

Cuisine Inspired Robotics
Stomach cancer is the second most common cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide after lung cancer and is particularly common in Asia.
Now scientists have devised a novel approach for removing early stages of gastric tumours that takes only a fraction of time normally taken with keyhole surgeries.
From Geeky Gadgets:
Scientists have created a a new miniature robot inspired by a sweet and spicy Singaporean crab dish that is surprisingly able to remove early stage cancers of the stomach without causing scarring.
Equipped with a pincer-like limb as well as a hook, the robot is supported by an endoscope and enters the patient’s body via his mouth. Attached to the endoscope is a miniature camera that allows the surgeon to examine the stomach as well as guide the robot arms by means of a monitor.

Early Risers May Shine In The Late Afternoon
![]()
It is a generally accepted belief that when we face a problem requiring ingenious solution we should attempt to solve it while we are rested and fully alert.
But it could be a wrong assumption as the new research into effects of time of day on creative thinking suggests.
From Miller-McCune:
A pair of Michigan psychologists, Mareike Wieth of Albion College and Rose Zacks of Michigan State University, report their findings in the journal Thinking and Reasoning. They assigned 428 students to fill out a standard “morningness-eveningness questionnaire,” which features 19 questions including “Approximately what time would you get up if you were entirely free to plan your day?” and “How much do you depend upon an alarm clock?”
